Friday Writing Room

Introducing the Friday Writing Room – Show up. Protect the time. Do the work.

About This Program

The Friday Writing Room is a structured, community-based writing space for mid-career women faculty at Howard University who want to protect time for scholarship and sustain research momentum during the semester. Participation is intentionally limited to maintain focus, trust, and accountability.

In addition to weekly Friday writing sessions, participants are expected to take part in two in-person seminars designed to support writing productivity at the critical midway point in the semester and to help kick off summer goals and practices.

Together, the weekly writing sessions and in-person seminars are designed to:

  • Increase protected writing time for mid-career women faculty
  • Reduce the impact of gendered service and emotional labor on research productivity
  • Build community and accountability that extend beyond the program
  • Establish sustainable writing rhythms that carry into summer and beyond
