Black Feminist Book Club

Reading, Community, and Conversation at Howard University

The Black Feminist Book Club is a student-led community at Howard University that celebrates the writing, ideas, and experiences of Black women. Through shared readings, discussions, and events, the club creates a space for students to explore Black feminist thought, connect with one another, and engage with literature that challenges, inspires, and expands how we understand the world.

Whether you are an avid reader or simply interested in discovering new authors and perspectives, the Black Feminist Book Club welcomes you to join the conversation.

Currently Reading: Sula by Toni Morrison

Our current selection is Sula by Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison.

Set in a Black community in Ohio, Sula explores friendship, identity, gender, belonging, and the expectations placed on Black women. Through the complicated relationship between Sula Peace and Nel Wright, Morrison invites readers to consider what it means to live on one's own terms and how communities define loyalty, respectability, and freedom.

Join us as we explore Morrison's work and the questions it raises about Black women's lives, relationships, and choices.
