Global Leadership of Women Summit Student Contest
The Center for Women, Gender and Global Leadership invites you to enter the Global Leadership
Summit of Women Student Contest. Students are invited to submit work that answers the question:
“How I imagine the future of Black women’s leadership.” Students can submit a written piece,
a work of art, spoken word, or other performances. The submissions will be judged on the following
criteria: Originality, Style and Effectiveness of Communication, and Unique Point of View (how do
you see this question through your eyes). All works must be submitted to the
womenscenter@howard.edu email by 5 pm on September 26th.
• Eligibility
The contest is open to full-time students at Howard University. All work submitted must be
original. Previously published works are eligible.
• Writing
Written pieces cannot be over 500-1000 words, double-spaced and must include the title and
page number on each page. Written pieces must be submitted electronically by the deadline,
any work received past the deadline will not be considered.
• Art
Digital artwork can be submitted electronically to the Center’s email address by the deadline.
For physical artwork, please send in a photo of your work and if chosen as a finalist, you will
be asked to bring in the physical piece for judges. Artwork must be submitted electronically
by the deadline, any work received past the deadline will not be considered.
• Spoken Word/Other performances
Spoken word and other performances should be pre-recorded and sent to the Center’s email
address by the deadline. Performances may not exceed 5 minutes and must include an
introduction of participants. Performances may be done in groups or individually. Video
submissions must be submitted electronically by the deadline, any work received past the
deadline will not be considered. No copyrighted materials (music, images, video clips, etc.) may
be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this
contest.
• Deadline
The deadline for all submissions is September 26th at 5 pm EST.
• Award/Recognition
The winners will be notified on or around Friday, September 30th, 2022 and will be required
to respond (as directed) to the notification attempt. Failure to respond timely to the
notification may result in forfeiture of participation in the Contest and, in such case, the
Center will select an alternate Winner according to the Final Judges' results. The winner will
receive a prize and have their work featured on the Center’s website. The winner will also be
invited to the Global Leadership of Women Summit event where they will be given their
award as part of the event.
