Entrepreneurial Leadership

Economic pundits have found that women entrepreneurs are key drivers of sustainable economic growth and broad-based, inclusive prosperity.

The promotion of women’s entrepreneurship is a growing effort worldwide. Economic pundits have found that women entrepreneurs are key drivers of sustainable economic growth and broad-based, inclusive prosperity.

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), a third of all formal businesses worldwide are run by women.

However, when looking at the bigger picture of entrepreneurship in the world, women usually are not leaders in major enterprises. A report from the ILO shows that the bigger the firm, the less likely it is to be headed by a woman. Recognizing that women play an integral role in economic growth, social development, prosperity and sustainability, the Center of Women, Gender, and Global Leadership will focus on Black women and entrepreneurship.

The Women and Entrepreneurship programming aims at providing Howard female students with the necessary tools to be leaders in entrepreneurship. The programming will include faculty members and students who are committed to creating initiatives and developing strategies aimed at empowering women so that they can fully participate in the economic growth of their communities.
