Mayor Muriel Bowser Presents Black Women's Equal Pay Day 2021

Black Women’s Equal Pay Day 2021

Black Women’s Equal Pay Day is the approximate day a Black woman must work into the new year to make what White non-Hispanic men made at the end of the previous year. Based on Census data, the 2021 wage gap for Black women, compared to non-Hispanic White men, is $0.63. This gap is emphasized by the disastrous impact the Coronavirus pandemic is continuing to have on women in the workforce.

MOWPI sat down with panelists Gloria Blackwell, Executive Vice Presidemt at AAUW; Dr. Carolyn Rudd, Chairwoman of the DC Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, Chair of the DC Commission on African American Affairs; and Dr. J. Jarpa Dawuni, Esq., Ph.D., Director of the Center for Women, Gender, & Global Leadership at Howard University, to discuss this disparity and some of its causes. You do NOT want to miss this dynamic conversation. Share it with widely with the women and men you know and help become part of the solution.

After the panel, join us for a special edition of AAUW's Salary Negotiation Workshop where you'll learn tips to advocate for the salary you deserve and help close the pay gap at your own place of work!
