Finding Tamika

A Black Girl Does Not Have to Go Missing for Us Not to See Her
This is a poster for the Finding Tamika event on November 15

Join us Tuesday, November 15th for a panel discussion on the Audible podcast Finding Tamika with activist and actor, Erica Alexander.

The true crime, Audible podcast Finding Tamika, tells the story of Tamika Huston, a missing twenty-four-year-old African American woman who lived in a small white frame house on Harvard Drive in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Tamika's disappearance became a rallying cry to raise awareness about other missing Black girls and women in America. It led to a growing demand to expose a system of negligence that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Howard University Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center in partnership with the Center for Women, Gender, and Global Leadership have teamed up to lead a conversation with students, professionals, practicians, and stakeholders to continue to keep these stories alive and summon a new generation of leaders that will expose a hidden past and give a dark warning for our future.

Be part of the conversation as we examine the disappearances of Black people and:

  • Ways students can keep themselves safe from the dangers of domestic violence and human trafficking.
  • Discuss the barriers and challenges of negotiating with law enforcement and navigating the media when a loved one goes missing.
